ROBERTA SMITH
Airs on a Sixstring
Roberta Smith is a self-confessed flower child, suggesting that she has a long history of writing and performing and indeed this does prove to be the case. As ‘Air on a Sixstring’ is intended as a four track EP preview of a soon coming album, within the tracks included, she manages to offer a range of topics and associated emotions, ranging from the complexities of love and the beauty in having found an enduring love, to the opposite of that, evoking the feeling of loneliness. Besides the intimate and personally reflective, there is social commentary as she references the lack of action in relation to climate change and then gives us humour, as she relates the sorry tale of a lost song (surely a theme not unknown to many an artist), though there is no need to give up hope of a reconciliation just yet. Her repertoire extends beyond writing and singing, having also appeared as an actor, notably playing the role of Anne Boleyn.
The depth and quality of Roberta’s songwriting has already been reflected in her selection for a Talent is Timeless showcase, an ongoing project offering exposure to songwriters over the age of 50.
