And The Routes of Rhythm Remain
(A Journey Through Global Music)
by Joe Boyd

Book signing Waterstones Liverpool Tuesday 15th 2024.

I must admit I have never been to a proper book signing before but when I saw Joe Boyd was visiting Liverpool to promote his new book “And The Routes Of Rhythm Remain” (A Journey Through Global Music) I thought I would go along to meet the man who for some many years been a part of folkies musical lives from his involvement with Fairport, Nick Drake and The Incredible String Band to name a few.

His previous book White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s was his story of his life as a producer and promoter in the heyday of the folk rock in those far off days. It’s still available and well worth a read.

This new book is a massive 900 page sweeping history of the world music which will take me many months to read so this is not any kind of review.

The event itself was in the upper room at Waterstones with a simple stage set up together with projected images of the some of the musicians talked about in the book and recording taken from many of his later album productions.

It was very good to listen to his stories of world travels and the many music makers he has been involved with over so many years.

It was a surprisingly small crowd of supporters, but charging £6 for the event seems a little greedy. I’m not sure who gets the cash.

It was nice to meet such well known and respected man.
