Off The Beaten Track
This page is for dates that are not part of a club's regular meeting pattern. The venue or the occasion might be different to the normal place and time. It might be a one-off singaround or a charity concert etc. I'll also include details of events that are run by non-members of the Federation - all publicity helps the cause! If you are organizing something along these lines and you want it putting on this page drop me a line at offthebeatentrack@folknorthwest.co.uk or put it in the guestbook and I'll include the event here. ---------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------- Hello.
I have recently set up a site at www.musicsongspoetry.co.uk
based around the regulars at the Bromborough Folk Club,
The Bridge Inn, Port Sunlight that meets every Wednesday night. My intention is to give some sort of platform for all the
club floorsingers who come week after week to perform their music, songs and
poetry, and also any other contributions from people who may visit the site.
Hopefully if sites such as yourself can give us a link this may help spread
their performances even further.
Thanks For Your Support

Jubilee Concertinas Angie Bladen from the Broken Token/Four Fools would like to remind all Concertina players that the Concertina workshops are now held every second Saturday of the month. After wandering around for the past few months, the new home for the workshop is at the Eaves Green Community Centre, Lower Burgh Way, Eaves Green, Chorley www.multimap.com is a link to a map of the area - the red circle shows the location of the community centre. Turn into Lower Burgh Way from the main road, go up to the roundabout, turn left and then left again into the car park for the pub and the shops. The community centre is the building by the car park entrance. The next workshops are on: See the Saturday Club Dates for information from 2-00pm to 5-00pm. All Concertina players are welcome to contribute tips and techniques that they have learnt or to pick up playing methods and improve their performance in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Sheet Music and accompanying CDs are available to take away and practice with in the comfort of your own home.
Thanks to a lottery grant, we have recently acquired an English concertina and a 20 key Anglo concertina for people to try prior to buying their own instrument. Instruments aren't cheap these days and it makes sense to have a go first.
Assistance from Folkus enables us to run a workshop with a concertina tutor every so often. The first such workshop was held in January with Steve Goodyear from Wolverhampton

Photo by Mark Dowding A coup for the concertina clan! (No - it isn't Gary Aspey) Fans of the hit TV show "Phoenix Nights" may recognise Jerry "The Saint" St Clair (aka Dave Spikey) who is getting to grips with the anglo concertina! Dave was voted the cultural face of Chorley recently and this photograph was taken when he attended a talk by Chorley Development Council who also presented him with a bust of himself:
Photo by Mark Dowding Anybody who has seen Dave Spikey on his excellent "Overnight Success" Tour recently may recognise the above picture.
